Mesa Del Conejo

Mesa Del Conejo is a popular Newbury Park tract located in the Conejo Valley. This area was originally referred to as "Rancho El Conejo," which was a 48,572-acre Spanish land grant given to Jose Polanco and Ygnacio Rodriguez in 1803, that encompassed the area now known as the Conejo Valley. El Conejo is Spanish for "the rabbit" and refers to the numerous rabbit species common to the region, such as the Desert Cottontail. The term "rancho" was historically used to describe a large land grant given by the Spanish and Mexican governments, to encourage settlement of the California territory. The East-West grant boundaries were located near the border of Westlake Village (Lindero Canyon Road) in the East to the top of the Conejo Grade in the West. The North-South boundaries extended from the top of the Simi Hills (a wildlife corridor linking the Santa Monica and Santa Susana mountains) in the North to Hidden Valley in the Santa Monica Mountains located in the South. Today, the rancho is the site of the communities of Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village.

Mesa Del Conejo offers both single and two-story homes, with a variety of floor plans ranging from 1500 to over 2500 square feet. Although an older community dating to 1965, many homes offer large lots, additional parking/storage space and have been remodeled. An added attraction is the lack of a home-owner's association. Mesa Del Conejo falls within the Conejo Valley Unified School District and is located close to Borchard Community Park, Oaks Mall and fine dining.
